Alan Soutar made his Scotland Debut yesterday and was awarded 2 caps.
First match of the day was against Wales but unfortunately Alan was beaten 3-2 by Kevin Thomas in a very close game. Alan missed one dart at Tops and one at Double 10 to win the final leg and the set for Scotland. Alan's first 3 darts on his debut couldn't have been any better as he smashed in a maximum to the delight of the travelling Scottish fans. Even with Alan losing his set Scotland still went on to beat Wales 7-5 which set up a final match of the day decider with England.
Earlier in the Championships England had beaten Wales 10-2.
The draw was made for the England match with Alan picked to play second against Former Lakeside World Champion John "Boy" Walton.
Alan wanted to make up for losing in his first match and started well with a 16 darter to win the first leg. However John showed his mettle and took the next 2 legs in 16 and 15 darts. Alan scraped the next leg to make the score 2-2 and into the deciding leg.....
Alan scored 4 tons on the bounce to set up 101 outshot with John Boy struggling with nerves at the start of the leg Alan looked favourite to win the match. However the seasoned pro clocked a 140 then 138 to set up tops and Alan Missed his double with his last dart bouncing out of double 8. As Alan was standing behind John looking on he was expecting John to close out the match but a chink in the armour of the Englishman was exposing itself......His hand was visibly shaking from the pressure. He missed his opportunity and Alan stepped up and took out double 2 with his last dart to win the set.
Scotland led 3-1 during the match but the Strong English team pulled it back and ran out winners 7-5.
A superb weekend and a debut to savour for the Arbroath player and hopefully more caps to come in the future.
